(Reminder) Hedgehogs are very active animals and are great pets for all ages but they do have their quills which can be sharp so please keep this in mind when looking at giving a child a hedgehog for a pet.
Here are the basic requirements that your household should meet if you wish to adopt a hedgehog.
1.) Although hedgehogs will adjust their sleeping times and play times to match yours, you need to expect to give them at least an hour (more would be better) of outside their cage play time each day. Now some hedgehogs will want to just play and be held by you you, others will want to be put down and allows to walk about . You can purchase walk around balls (the largest size is best) and your hedgehog can be placed in these to walk around or you can just set them on the floor and watch them go.
2.) Hedgehogs must have a place where they can sleep when they need to. So you need to have a quiet place in your hedgehog's cage to be where it can relax and sleep.
3.) Hedgehogs do require that your home stay around 73-75 degrees, as these animals can go into hibernation if the house is too cold and this type of hedgehog isn't surpost to go into hibernation as they won't wake back up.
4.) Reminder that your hedgehog is like a cat and they may have different moods and personalites so make sure that the hedgehog you decide to adopt is one that will fit into your family. If your family is a jumping, hyper family then you don't want a shy hedgehog and vise verses.
